Social Democratic Party (SDP) wishes to clarify the public record regarding the publication of Mr. Adewole Adebayo as the Party's presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
The Party states that Mr. Adebayo was expelled from the SDP pursuant to resolutions adopted at its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and National Convention held on 20 May 2026, proceedings which the Party states were monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Consequently, the SDP maintains that he was not eligible to participate in the Party's nomination process and was never nominated as its presidential candidate.
The SDP respectfully calls on INEC to review its published records against the Party's duly submitted resolutions and nomination documents in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026 (as amended) and all applicable electoral regulations.
SDP urges INEC to review its publication of Adewole Adebayo as presidential candidate, citing official party resolutions and Electoral Act compliance requirements.
SDP notes that confidence in Nigeria's democratic institutions depends upon the accurate reflection of duly completed nomination processes and faithful compliance with applicable electoral laws. The Party therefore urges INEC to examine the relevant records and take any corrective administrative measures that may be warranted under the law.
